IT Dobel
IT service in the northern Black Forest

Dobel sits at 700 metres in the northern Black Forest. We make sure hotels, clinics and branch offices stay reliably connected despite altitude and patchy infrastructure. LTE failover and mesh Wi-Fi are part of the standard kit here.

At 700 metres a hotel runs under different conditions than in town. Reception, weather, building physics. We factor all of that in.

City profile

Dobel is mountain air, tourism and SMB on tight ground.

The climatic health resort of Dobel in the district of Calw lives on tourism around the northern Black Forest, on small rehab and clinic facilities and on tradespeople whose field staff commute daily between mountain roads and the valley. Anyone who works here knows the spots where mobile coverage thins out.

The digital reality differs from Karlsruhe or Pforzheim. Fibre comes slowly, not everywhere, and tunnels or dense forest sections disturb connections that would simply work in town. We take these conditions as a starting point, not as an exception.

What makes Dobel distinct

A spa resort and SMBs sharing tight ground.

On a mountain ridge between the Alb and Enz valleys, hospitality, rehab facilities, trades and tourism all share the same thin supply lines. When the power line wobbles, it hits everyone at once. Our IT concepts factor in that simultaneity and place redundancy exactly where it actually pays off.

Four things that work differently up here

What we deliver at 700 metres.

  1. 01

    Multi-path internet with LTE failover

A standard line plus a second one via LTE or 5G, with automatic switch-over on failure. That way the restaurant cash system keeps running even if a digger in the valley has caught the underground cable.

  2. 02

Wi-Fi that gets through thick walls

Many hotels and guest houses in Dobel sit in older buildings whose walls flatten any consumer-grade Wi-Fi. We plan coverage floor by floor and use access points designed for buildings like these.

  3. 03

    Telephony that handles shifts

Clinics and hotel front desks need telephony that adapts to shifts, forwards calls and reflects on-call rotas. We configure cloud PBX systems so that day-to-day care does not require IT skills.

  4. 04

    Seasonal scaling

In summer and winter hotels and restaurants take on additional staff. We set up user accounts seasonally, license precisely for the period, and close the accounts automatically at the end of the season instead of forgetting them.

From the service area

Hotel with main building and two annexes

Starting point

The main building had a good connection; the two annexes 200 metres away relied on weak DSL lines. Guest Wi-Fi in the annexes was unusable.

What we did

We installed two line-of-sight radio bridges so that both annexes link back to the main house and its fast connection. Guest Wi-Fi runs on a separate SSID, kept apart from the operational network.

Today

Wi-Fi complaints have disappeared from guest reviews since then. Monthly internet costs have not increased, because the old DSL contracts could be cancelled.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Dobel

How quickly can you be on-site in Dobel?

From us it is 28 km, a good 35 minutes by car. In winter the mountain roads can take a bit longer. Under our standard contract response time is around 55 minutes, under an emergency contract less than an hour. A lot of things can also be sorted out remotely, so no-one has to come out at all.

What kind of IT topics come up often in the Black Forest?

Internet connectivity and mobile reception in the northern Black Forest are not equally good everywhere. We help to make the most of the line you have, plan Wi-Fi coverage even in older buildings with thick walls, and set up data backups so that recovery still works if the connection is down for longer.

How do you support a hotel with several buildings or annexes?

We look at the buildings and work out together with you how they can be sensibly connected. Where cables are in the ground we use them. Where that is not possible, we use Wi-Fi bridges or short directional links. The guest network and the internal network are always kept strictly separate.

Do you also cover Bad Herrenalb, Bad Wildbad, and Schömberg?

Yes. The service area around Dobel covers Marxzell, Bad Herrenalb, Bad Wildbad, Schömberg, and Höfen an der Enz. Under our flat monthly contract we do not bill the longer drives over the mountain roads on top.
